Async Comms Tester

SSL developed the Asynchronous Communications Tester on behalf of the HA as an additional tool for diagnosing problems with asynchronous communication links.

It is designed to further extend the diagnostic capabilities of Tester for Windows with support for basic NMCS2 commands as well as custom messages for other link types.

Fast poll, monitor, manual and slave based operations are all supported with an extensive array of performance statistics and hexadecimal debug output. A considerable number of configuration options are supported including standards serial settings, application timeouts and thread priorities.

Main interface

The array of supported options enables HA RMCs to interrogate any asynchronous communication link for any possible configuration or performance problems.  The following key features are supported in the latest version:

Key Features:

  • Provides a comprehensive list of performance and error statistics
  • Provides automated and manual control modes as well as a slave simulation
  • Provides manual and automated setting of serial control lines
  • Provides full serial FIFO control under different operating systems to eliminate buffering errors
  • Provides configuration options including Baud Rate, Parity, Data Bits, Stop Bits, Flow Control
  • Enables engineers to determine the optimum configuration for Tester and Device Simulator
  • Supports different port types (RS232, USB/RS232, USB/RS485)
  • Supports long and short term soak tests
  • Supports 5-Byte Protocol (NMCS2) support
  • Provides future support for IP links
  • Provides future support for PCMCIA serial adapters
