Overview:

The complete module comprises a PCB (printed circuit board) assembly contained in a plastic enclosure with a clear lid and is a “stand alone” product designed to meet the lightning protection requirements of LAN and high-speed RS485/RS422 circuits.

Two identical circuits, electrically separated except for a common ground connection, are laid out on one compact board to provide lightning protection for two communication pairs.  Line and Equipment connections to the module are via standard RJ45 sockets.

The circuits can support one RS422 4 wire circuit, two high-speed RS485 2 wire circuits or a bi-directional LAN circuit (4 wire).  The LPM clamps common mode line voltages to about ±80 to ±90V with respect to ground.  Differential line-to-line voltages are clamped to about ±8.4V.  Re-settable fuses are used instead of conventional fuses for maintenance free operation and both circuits are fitted with gas discharge devices.
